The game of 7 Card Stud High-Low is, as the name suggests, played both high and low. Most of the rules referred to in Section 16 for 7 Card Stud apply to 7 Card Stud High-Low, but there are some exceptions and these are noted among the rules below.
18.1 The term "8 or better" is used to draw the line between high hands and low hands. This means that a low hand must consist of five cards of different ranks that that are 8 or lower.
18.2 The Ace counts as both a high card and a low card.
18.3 If there are no valid low hands then the best high hand in the game will win the entire pot.
18.4 Players use any five cards to make a low hand any five to make a high hand. They may play the same cards for both high and low hands.
18.5 Straights and flushes do not change the value of a low hand.
18.6 The action in the first round will be initiated by the player with the lowest card according to suit.
18.7 In the following rounds the action will be initiated by the player with the high hand.
18.8 Further to Rule18.7, if two or more players are tied for the high hand, the action will be initiated by the player closest to the dealer in a clockwise direction. If the player with the high hand has moved all-in then action continues in a clockwise direction as if that player had checked.
18.9 In a fixed limit game, the lower limit should be used on the third and fourth streets and the higher limit on following streets.
18.10 The limit will not be affected by an open pair on the fourth street.
18.11 Pots may not be split by negotiation between players, but only by the hands.
18.12 Should a pot contain an odd chip, this will be given to the player with the high hand.
18.13 In the event of two players tying for both the high hand and the low hand, the dealer will split the pot as equally as possible, and any odd chip will be given to the player with the highest card according to suit. All cards are taken into account to determine this odd chip assignment.
18.14 If there is an odd chip in the high share of a pot and high hands are tied, the odd chip will be assigned to the player with the highest card according to suit.
18.15 If there is an odd chip in the low share of a pot and low hands are tied, the odd chip will be assigned to the player with the lowest card according to suit.
