The 2008 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker will run from 05-22 September, 2008 and boast a guaranteed prize pool of $30,000,000 (yes, thirty million!). This is twice as much as the guaranteed prize pool for 2007, and makes the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker the biggest online tourney in the world.
Satellites to the tournament will be available all summer, and you can buy-in for as little as 100 Frequent Player Points or $2.20, depending on the route you wish to take. Choose from Sit & Go satellites, MTT satellites and Steps Satellites.
To participate, all you have to do is sign into your PokerStars account and look for WCOOP (the acronym for the World Championship of Online Poker) in the Events section of the lobby. You can also buy-in directly to any WCOOP event, though obviously this will cost more than entering a satellite.
The tournament offers 33 events featuring all of the most popular online poker games, including HORSE, 2-7 Draw, Stud Razz, Omaha and the world’s favourite Texas Hold’em. The guaranteed prize pool for each event is enormous – and that means more than $2,000,000 in many cases.
The PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker Main Event will be held on 21 September and boasts a guaranteed prize pool of £10,000,000. In 2007, the winner (known as “Ka$ino”) earned himself $1,378,330, and the 2008 winner could win even more.
