Is it legal to play poker, for money, in a pub?
1. Generally, gaming is not allowed in places to which the public have access. However, it is possible that a specific pub has been licensed for gaming. It is worth checking with the landlord should you want to play.
2. If gaming has been authorised in a particular place, no charge may be made (in money or money's worth) for playing, entrance or otherwise. In addition, no levy or tax may be charged on any of the stakes or on the winnings of any of the players, whether as a direct payment or deduction. This would include the exchange of tokens or tickets at a lower rate than the rate at which they were issued, or by any other means.
