Playing multiple tables is something that online poker players can do at most sites. But why would anyone want to play several tables at once, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of this particular poker strategy?
The first advantage of playing multiple tables is that it allows the online poker player to increase his turnover, and if he is a profitable player, his overall profit will also increase. For example, if a player can make an average of £5 per hour playing one table at a time, he could potentially make an average of £10 by playing two tables at a time.
Another advantage of playing multiple tables is that it can be achieved on one computer, so no additional hardware is necessary. Poker tables are played in separate windows, so playing multiple tables simply means having multiple windows open on the screen.
Of course, there are disadvantages to playing multiple tables too. The first is that it involves putting more money at risk at any given time. This isn’t automatically a bad thing if all goes well, but if you happen to get disconnected then you’ll obviously be disconnected from several games and not just one.
A second disadvantage is that playing multiple tables can make it more difficult for you to concentrate. This depends largely on your ability to focus, but the big risk is that your winning strike rate might decline when playing multiple tables, in which case the idea will work against you rather than for you.
If you would like to try playing multiple tables then we would suggest that you start slowly and monitor your results. Play two tables instead of one for a while and see if you can sustain your regular winning rate. If you can, you can consider adding another table to the mix, but if you can’t you shouldn’t hesitate drop back. It’s better to for an online poker player to play one table at a time and to win than to play multiple tables and lose.
