Chris “Jesus” Ferguson once famously turned $0 into $20,000 at the poker tables, and he has recently turned $0 into more than $10,000 (he actually grew his bankroll to more than $25,000) in just 16 months.
All of this was achieved playing online poker, starting in freeroll games and then progressing to cash games and both single and multi-table tournaments. His story is truly inspirational, and can be found on his pages at Full Tilt Poker where he spends his online playing time, and we thought it would be a good idea to present a few suggestions on how we can all attempt to achieve a similar feat.
Chris Ferguson is no poker newbie. He has won five World Series bracelets and is widely considered to be one of the best poker players in the world. Whilst you don’t necessarily need to be a bracelet winner to turn nothing into something at the online poker tables, you do need to know the game well enough to play strategically. There is no way to acquire this knowledge without putting in some hours of study and practice. That said, if you don’t know your pot odds from your pot pourri, we suggest you go to our Poker School and get yourself an education.
Chris didn’t turn nothing into something at the online poker tables by jumping straight in without a game plan. Instead, he sat down and thought things through carefully, devising a money management system and setting himself some strict rules about how much of his bankroll he could use to buy-in to any game and the point at which he would leave the table when he had made a profit.
We have said that Chris Ferguson is one of the best poker players in the world, and it took him months to turn $0 into $10,000. If a player of his calibre needed to exercise patience and self-discipline then the rest of us will need to be even more patient, because we are likely to take even longer to achieve something similar.
Turning $0 into $10,000 at the online poker tables isn’t easy by any means, but Chris Ferguson has proved that it is possible by doing it twice. If you’re inspired by his success and you manage to achieve something similar, we’d love to hear about it.
